Wow ! I got 10,000 hits. I know you guys have crossed this mark long time ago. When I started this blog I was thinking at half ways what going to be first, 10,000 hits or 100 post and around 83rd post I hit 10,000 hits. Thank you so very much all. Now back to the recipe.
Me and my husband both love falafel. That was our Friday lunch when we both used to work seems like decade ago. Near to our work place there was one falafel guy who makes such a good dish that we have to stand in the line to get it. But still we stood there and enjoyed our lunch in nearby park. After kids I missed those days and falafel too. I used to make it with ready made box but it turns out very dry and frying them it's a mess. House smells like with frying food and its not healthy and above all not at all happy with the final outcome. so I find this recipe from Food Network and after that my falafel balls comes out crispy and moist and we enjoy our diner too. This balls you can fry it too or bake it just like I did it. Make sure you turned them so it becomes crunchy from all the side.
Ingredients:
2 cups dried chick peas
1 small onion
3-4 thai chilies or adjust your spice level as per your taste
3 big cloves of garlic
2 handfuls of Flat leaf parsley (If you dont find parsley you can use cilantro.)
1 tsp baking powder
salt as per taste
1 lime juice
oil for frying
6 Whole wheat pita
Tahini sauce, hot sauce, sliced onion, cucumber, tomato, lettuce
Serves : 4 people.
Method:
Soak chick peas in big pan with enough water for whole night.
Next day, rinse thoroughly.
Put soaked chickpeas in food processor with onion, garlic, chilies, baking powder , parsley, salt. Pulse it till it becomes nice crumbliness in texture , you have to make puree out of it.
Transfer it to bowl and adjust the seasoning. Leave it aside for 30-40 minutes.
This point you can decide if you want to bake it or fry it. if frying it heat oil in deep pot and make golf size balls and fry it on medium heat until it's well done from all over. Remove and put it on paper towel.
If baking it heat up oven at 375 F. and spray it baking dish and put balls in it. spray the balls also and bake it from all side for 15-20 minutes and or its cook from all over.
you can make it 25-27 balls from this mixture.
Now assemble time.
Take pocket pita and put two falafel balls inside, drizzle tahini sauce, hot sauce on it. add onion, tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce, cooked chickpeas if you like. Serve it immediately.
Hot sauce
5-6 dried red chilies
1 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tsp olive oil
salt to taste
2 cloves garlic
Mix it with little water in blender until it gets sauce consistency.
Inspired from here.
You can use green dry chick peas also instead of white.
