This is one more most famous dish from North India. Everyone must have ordered once in their life time and when you know how easy it is to make it home, you thought really and I wasted money for this simple dish? Yes its true, it is really simple yet perfect combination with hot steamy white rice or hot parathas. You never go wrong with this dal. Try it and let me know.
Ingredients :
1 cup toover dal (Spilt pigeon peas)
2 tsp. Oil or ghee
1 finely chopped onion
1 finely chopped tomato
1 tsp. ginger and garlic paste
1 tsp. green chili paste (fresh is always good)
1 tsp. Turmeric powder
1 tsp. red chili powder
1 tsp. garam masala powder
salt to taste
few kasoori methi crushed
1 dry red chili
hing to taste
1 tsp. cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tsp. Amchur (dry mango powder)
few fresh chopped coriander leaves
Method:
Wash and boil dal with 1 and half cup of water in pressure cooker. cook till its all mushy and water is gone, mine took 5 whistles.
Heat a pan, add oil / Ghee in it.
Add jeera in it when it changes it color, add hing and dry red chili.
Add onion and cook till its soften.
Add tomatoes and cook till its mushy.
Add both the paste and all powder masala , salt and kasoori methi.
Mix and cook for minute or two.
Add mushy dal in it and add cup of water in pressure cooker and clean it and add that water in dal too.
Boil it on low flame for 5 minutes.
Before serving sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and served hot with steamy rice or naan or parathas.
