Roasted Tomatillo Salsa Verde with Home Made Tortilla chips

Who can resist chips and dips? that's I guess favorite food for all the ages. I love to have spicy dips with my tortilla chips. So When I saw beautiful tomatillo in farmers market, I could not resist and brought home for making Salsa Verde. Salsa you all know, Verde in Spanish means green, so its made from green tomatillos. Its originated from Mexico and they use in their dishes widely. Its covered with paper thin husk, you have to remove it and washed it properly because it has sticky residue on it. After its clean you can use it for your salsa or just roast it and eat it with Avocado as salad. But today we are talking about Salsa so lets make that first.

For Tomatillo Salsa :

7 Tomatillo
1 Jalapeno (seedless)
1 red onion
4-5 garlic ( I like mine garlicky but if u think u can not handle, add 2 only)
salt to taste
lime juice to taste
few strings of fresh coriander

Method:

You can make it without roasting but roasting give nice char flavor.
So heat your roasting pan.
Just roast everything except salt, lime juice and coriander leaves,  for few minutes, turning side to side.

Take it out and let it cool for few minutes because you don't want to put hot stuff in blender.
Add everything in blender once its cool and make a puree or if you like me , make chunky salsa. Its up to you and your taste bud.
serve it along with your favorite tortilla chip or lets make home made.

Ingredients Tortilla Chips :

6 small corn tortillas (you can use whole wheat too)
1 tsp. oil
salt and pepper to taste

Method:

I made it in toaster. Pre heat your toaster at 400.
spray dish with oil.
Arrange tortilla on top of each one. Then cut it in eight triangle pieces.

Arrange on dish in single layer. Then spray oil on it and sprinkle salt and pepper.
cook it for 6-7 minutes. Keep an eye on it cause it will burn fast.
You can add your favorite seasoning also.
Take it out and enjoy with salsa Verde.

  1. I can't say no, firstly to the salsa and then only the chips. The flavors of the salsa are all that I will always drool over - tangy, spicy and zesty.
