Stuffed Brussels Sprouts

Even though Brussels sprouts are not a vegetable seen in Indian markets or at Indian tables, I have always been intrigued by them. Add to their unfamiliar nature the fact that they seem not to be very popular with people and it was years before I actually tried them.  I love cabbage and so figured I had to give Brussels sprouts a try. Don't be like me and let the fact that you've never cooked or eaten them, intimidate you from trying to cook them Indian style. You'll be missing out on good stuff! Serve Brussels Sprouts Ki Sabzi with hot Chapatis. Add a Dal dish and a spicy, tangy pickle and you've got the perfect vegetarian meal!  I don't like to eat only one vegetable so I added one onion and potatoes too.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ALL FOR YOUR WONDERFUL COMMENTS.

Ingredients:

6-7  Brussels sprouts
1 onion
1 potato
4 tsp oil

For stuffing:

make a paste of ginger, garlic, green chilies.
add in  it powder unsalted peanuts,
tsp of red chili powder,
tsp of haldi powder
tsp of coriander and cumin  powder
pinch of amchur powder
salt to taste

Mix all these and keep it aside.

method:

Make 4 cuts half way thru vegetables and stuffed masala inside.
Heat a nonstick pan and add oil in it.
When oil is hot, put all stuffed vegetables in it.
Cook on low flame till vegetables cooked around 10- 15 minutes. Stir in between so it does not stick at the bottom and cook from all the sides.
Serve hot with dal and roti.

  22. Linsy, my aunt went to live in UK in the 70s when indian vegetables were not available. One of the vegs she would prepare was stuffed brussel sprouts. You are right we should not get scared to try out other vegs and fruits. Lovely recipe.
