Dal Palak is so yesterday, now other greens are in. We all make Dal palak. I did not had spinach and even did not wanted to make it with that green, so I got a bunch of bok choy from Chinese store. Some I used it in chinese dish, some in with radish leaves subji and rest for this dish. I make it with Chana dal but you can make it with your choice of dal like toover, mung or any other lentils. It's same style just the green is different.
Ingredients :
1 cup washed Chana dal
1 cup chopped Bok Choy washed
1 onion chopped
1 tbsp tomato puree
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp Red chili powder ( as per taste)
1 tbsp Ginger, green chili, garlic paste
salt to taste
2 tsp oil
pinch of hing
Method:
Heat a pressure cooker.
Add oil in it.
Add jeera and wait till its changes it color.
Add onion in it , cook it till become light pink. Add hing in it.
Add tomato puree, powder masala and garlic, ginger, chili paste and salt.
Mix well and add chana dal and BokChoy . Mix it and add enough water to cook it.
I have done it in 4 whistle on medium flame. It can depend upon your cooker and gas burner.
I like it whole dal so I did not cook it more.
Serve hot with Roti or rice.
