We all make chana dal with lauki (dudhi, ghiya, bottle gouard). I wanted to try some other vegetable which has same texture and zucchini comes to my mind. So I made this and my picky husband was delighted to eat this dal. It's very simple and easy dal , you can make it as you make it with lauki but just add zucchini in it or you can try my way too.
Ingredients:
2 cups chana dal (washed and ready to go)
1/4 cup chopped zucchini
1 tomato chopped
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp each ginger paste and garlic paste
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp haldi powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
Pinch of hing
salt to taste
3 tsp oil
Method:
Heat oil in cooker, add mustard seeds, when popped add hing and tomatoes in it.
Cook for 3 minutes till tomatoes cooked, add both paste and powder masalas. Mix well , if that sticks to cooker add little bit of water so masala dont burn.
Add chana dal and zucchini and add enough water to cook it and consistency you are looking for.
Add salt and shut the cooker and put the whistle on.
I was down at 4 whistle but it's totally upon your cooker, dal and gravy.
Serve hot with jeera rice or roti or chapati.
